Sitting at 2-9 and in last place in the AFC (trailing the next-worst Tennessee Titans by two games), the New England Patriots have not been able to string together much of anything this season. Perhaps the most concerning aspect of their season has been the sub-par quarterback play, which led to reporters asking head coach Bill Belichick who will start in Week 13.
Both quarterbacks, Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe, have seen playing time this season due to the offensive struggles, but neither has been able to run away with the starting job. Jones has been benched in-game four times for Zappe, but the latter has failed to take advantage of any of the opportunities afforded to him because of Jones’ struggles.
With neither quarterback showing they can take command of the Patriots offense, Belichick was asked if the team may consider bringing in other options outside of the organization to fill the position over the final six games of the season.
“I don’t really see that right now, but I mean, I wouldn’t rule anything out, anything that would help our team,” Belichick said. “You never know what’s going to happen,” he added.
In the meantime, the Patriots must figure out what to do with the quarterbacks currently on their roster as they prepare for a Week 13 clash with the Los Angeles Chargers. Jones and Zappe combined for 143 scoreless yards and three interceptions in the team’s loss to the New York Giants this past Sunday.
