“Just name your dang starter. It doesn’t matter, they both stink,” ESPN’s Rex Ryan Gets Heated when Discussing Drama Surrounding Patriots QB Position

The New England Patriots are trying everything they can to find a solution for their quarterback struggles this season. Sitting at 2-9 through 12 weeks, the problems go beyond the quarterback position. However, Mac Jones being benched in-game on four separate occasions this season won’t do any favors and has now left uncertainty about his future with the team.

Leading up to a Week 12 clash against the New York Giants, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick declined to name a starting quarterback and waited until shortly before kickoff to announce Jones would start. The uncertainty at the quarterback position drove many people crazy, including ESPN analyst and former head coach of the New York Jets, Rex Ryan.

Ryan spoke on the topic during ESPN’s Get Up and he addressed Belichick directly in his comments: “Can I just say this? Bill Belichick, please stop. Just name your dang starter. It doesn’t matter, they both stink…”

The other quarterback Ryan is referencing in his comments is presumed backup Bailey Zappe, who played the entire second half of the Patriots 10-7 loss to the Giants on Sunday. Jones and Zappe combined for 143 scoreless yards and three interceptions. However, Zappe led the team to their only scoring drive of the game when he entered to start the second half.

The Patriots have the worst record in the AFC and their season is practically over, so some don’t understand why Belichick is being so secretive about who the starting quarterback will be moving forward.
