Wild Pick Six in Jets-Dolphins Game Forced NFL Sponsor to give away $1 million worth of free televisions as part of a promotion

When TCL USA pitched their promotional ad for NFL TV to give out $1 million worth of free televisions if someone scored a 98-yard touchdown during the NFL’s first-ever Black Friday game between the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, they weren’t expecting to have to live up to their end of the bargain. That all changed in the final seconds of the first half.

Jets quarterback Tim Boyle tried to score a last-second Hail Mary touchdown before halftime, chucking up a ball that was intercepted by Dolphins safety Jevon Holland from just outside of the Jets end zone, which he returned for a 99-yard touchdown as time expired.

It was a devastating turn of events that brought the Jets deficit to double-digits entering halftime while giving the Dolphins defense momentum.

Although TCL USA said that they’d dish out $1 million in free televisions if a 98-yard touchdown was scored, they decided to honor the promotion in light of Holland’s touchdown. Touchdowns of that distance are extremely rare in the NFL, so it was nice to see TCL USA not be so stingy over the one-yard difference.

While it is a lot of money/televisions to give out, moments like this are what the holiday season is all about. TCL USA is giving thanks to those who have stuck by them over the years by giving them televisions. Christmas is also right around the corner, so it’ll be interesting to see if they come up with another fun promotion.
