In Week 13, The Philadelphia Eagles are hosting the San Francisco 49ers in a rematch of last year’s NFC Championship Game. The Eagles dismantled the 49ers 31-7 in that game en route to making a Super Bowl appearance. As the 49ers seek to exact their revenge, Eagles defensive coordinator Sean Desai is preparing to go against quarterback Brock Purdy.
When these two met in the NFC Championship last season, Purdy suffered a torn UCL in his throwing elbow that forced him to leave the game in the first quarter. In his place, Josh Johnson stepped in only to be knocked out of the game in the second quarter with a concussion, forcing Purdy to return to the game despite being unable to throw.
Now, Purdy is back at full strength after undergoing surgery and rehabbing this offseason and is poised to make an impact this time around. Desai is aware of this and seems to have a plan in place to defend Purdy.
“Brock’s playing at a high level. Really efficient with the ball,” Desai said. In addition to Purdy’s efficiency, Desai pointed out Purdy’s ability to create plays with his legs, calling him “slippery.”
“He’s slippery. He’s a little bit quick and can be evasive in the pocket,” Desai said regarding Purdy. “We will have to have a good plan corralling him and getting tight…” Desai added.
With both teams doing a lot of trash-talking during the offseason as a result of the NFC Championship Game, this game between the 49ers and Eagles has the makings to be one of the most highly-contested games of the season.
