“If I was to shoot like you I’d keep my a** in the corner” – Rudy Gobert encouraging teammate Karl-Anthony Towns to shoot more

Through their first 18 games of the 2023-24 NBA season, the Minnesota Timberwolves have a 14-4 record, sitting atop the Western Conference. It has been a remarkable start to the season for a team that many didn’t know what to expect from them after last season didn’t go as planned following their blockbuster acquisition of All-Star center Rudy Gobert.

This season, the frontcourt pairing of Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns has looked much better than last season. Gobert’s defensive prowess and interior offensive presence, combined with Towns’ ability to stretch the floor with his unique blend of size and shooting ability has become a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses.

A former NBA Three-Point Contest winner, Towns has been amongst the best three-point shooters in the league for some time. He is shooting 41.1 percent from beyond the arc this season, ranking near the top of the league in efficiency.

Towns is averaging five three-point attempts per game. Gobert wants Towns to shoot more and continues to encourage him to do so whenever he gets the opportunity to do so.

“If I was to shoot like you I’d keep my a** in the corner,” Gobert said he told Towns.

If Towns can maintain his efficiency while increasing his shot output, it only bodes well for the Timberwolves and their outlook this season.
