Last night’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks on Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football was a thrilling affair that resulted in an abundance of points scored. With defense being an afterthought for much of the night, the Cowboys and Seahawks made NFL history, playing an entire game without a single punt.
Per NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk, last night marked just the sixth time in the history of the NFL that an entire game was played with neither team punting the ball. The last time it happened was in 2021 when the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs met in a regular season game.
By looking at the box score, it is easy to see how neither team ended up punting the ball. Both offenses were firing on all cylinders and scoring at will.
Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith threw for 334 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception, adding six yards and a rushing touchdown through the ground. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott threw for 299 yards and three touchdown passes.
Smith and Prescott were dialed in from the beginning of the game, making this one of the more entertaining games of the season.
Ultimately, the Cowboys defeated the Seahawks 41-35 in thrilling fashion thanks to a game-ending fourth down stop by Micah Parsons and the Cowboys defensive unit.
It was a disappointing loss for the Seahawks, who had a 35-27 lead early in the fourth quarter. But it is tough to win games when your defense doesn’t force any punts (even though the Cowboys managed to do that in this game).
