The 2023 NFL season, like every year, has seen plenty of players already suffering season-ending injuries in the first month.
Notable injured Quarterbacks are:
Joe Burrow
Burrow, who is on the Bengals’ sideline, had season-ending surgery on his right wrist, which he injured during a November loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Kirk Cousins
Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles in Week 8’s 24-10 win over the Green Bay Packers.
The injury was a huge setback for the Vikings, as before their quarterback went down, the team was bouncing back from a 1-4 start to the season.
Cousins was playing at an MVP level before getting hurt.
Apart from him, the team is also missing star wide receiver Justin Jefferson, who got hurt in Week 5 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
As per the latest reports, Kirk Cousins has had successful surgery to repair his torn Achilles.
Dr. Chris Coetzee performed the surgery, and the procedure that Cousins went through is not similar to what Aaron Rodgers had.
Unfortunately, the Vikings quarterback will not return to play this season. He will be ready to play next season, but an exciting offseason awaits.
Daniel Jones
The New York Giants anticipate Daniel Jones will return to being their starting quarterback once he finishes rehabilitating his surgically repaired right knee.
Kenny Pickett
Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett underwent ankle surgery to “accelerate the healing process” on a high sprain to his right ankle, Coach Mike Tomlin said Monday.
Pickett will be out for Thursday’s game against the New England Patriots, and while Coach Mike Tomlin declined to give a specific timetable for the quarterback’s return, he said the injury is not season-ending.
Pickett underwent a “Tightrope” procedure.
Anthony Richardson
He had successful surgery on his right shoulder in Los Angeles to fix a Grade 3 AC joint sprain in October.
Doctors didn’t find anything new or surprising during the surgery and just repaired what was expected.
URGENT NFL/COLTS NEWS:
🏈 #5 QB Anthony Richardson’s surgery today in LA was a success! It was a long procedure and his shoulder injury has been repaired. No new surprises were found during surgery – they just repaired what was expected. Anthony is doing well and thanks everyone…— Jim Irsay (@JimIrsay) October 25, 2023
There is currently no timetable for the first-rounder’s return, but we know that he will miss the rest of his rookie season.
Aaron Rodgers
He is reported to be targeting a Week 16 return, which would mean that he could be under center for the Jets as soon as Christmas Eve.
However, that likely hinges on the Jets chances at contending for a playoff spot, and those chances look rather slim at this moment in time.
Rodgers went down with a ruptured Achilles in the first drive of the season but has been citing a desire to return before season’s end.
His practice window was opened earlier this week, although he has not yet been cleared for contact.
Deshaun Watson
In the Browns’ Week 10 victory over the Baltimore Ravens, Watson suffered a displaced fracture in his right glenoid (located in his right shoulder) in the first half.
The team announced he would undergo season-ending surgery to repair the broken bone in his throwing shoulder.
The team reported that Watson was also playing through a high ankle sprain in the comeback win.
He also suffered a rotator cuff injury in his throwing arm in Week 3 vs. the Tennessee Titans. He returned from that injury in Week 7.
NFL players out for the 2023 season with injuries who have already been declared out for the remainder of the season.
Aaron Rodgers – New York Jets
The Jets quarterback suffered a torn Achilles just four plays into the 2023 season and is not expected to return despite his effort to play this season.
The injury is serious – he had surgery to repair his Achilles.
JK Dobbins – Baltimore Ravens
Just like Rodgers, the Baltimore Ravens running back suffered a torn Achilles in the first game of the season.
It’s a difficult situation for Dobbins, who has shown plenty of promise in his NFL career but has never been able to stay healthy for a full season.
Jack Conklin – Cleveland Browns
The Browns lost their star tackle right at the beginning of the season, as Conklin suffered a significant knee injury that will see him miss the 2023 season entirely.
Nick Chubb – Cleveland Browns
A gruesome knee injury suffered by Chubb during Week 2’s Monday Night Football game between the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers will see the running back miss the entire season.
Avonte Maddox – Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles slot cornerback suffered a torn pec during a game against the Minnesota Vikings and will only return in 2023.
Gardner-Johnson – Detroit Lions
The NFL leader in interceptions in the previous season also suffered a torn pec in Week 2.
Gardner-Johnson and Maddox were teammates with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022.
The Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver tore his ACL playing against the Minnesota Vikings.
Mike Williams – Los Angeles Chargers
A non-contact injury for Diggs during practice ended his season prematurely.
The Cowboys lost the subsequent game to the Arizona Cardinals.
Just like Rodgers and Dobbins, the Bills cornerback tore his Achilles and is now to miss the remainder of the 2023 season.
Christian Gonzalez – New England Patriots
The Patriots star rookie was leading the race to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year award but has suffered a serious shoulder injury.
He will likely miss the rest of the season, and the Patriots recently acquired JC Jackson from the Chargers to fill his void.
Emmanuel Moseley – Detroit Lions
In his season debut for the Lions, cornerback Emmanuel Moseley tore his right ACL.
This is another devasting injury for the player as it was his first game after recovering from an ACL injury that he sustained in his left leg last year.
Alijah Vera-Tucker – New York Jets
Alijah Vera-Tucker is out for the season due to a torn Achilles.
He joins Aaron Rodgers as the second Jets player this season to suffer the same injury and will be heavily missed by the team.
Anthony Richardson – Colts
The fourth overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft will undergo a season-ending shoulder injury.
The team will play with Gardner Minshew as their starting quarterback for the rest of the campaign.
This is a huge blow for the Colts, as Richardson looked pretty good and would have made great progress over the course of the season had he stayed healthy.
Cole Holcomb – Steelers
He suffered a scary knee injury and will be sidelined for the rest of the season.
A possible comeback next year is on the cards for him, but the injury was quite similar to Nick Chubb’s.
Cam Akers: Vikings
Vikings running back Cam Akers has suffered another Achilles injury and is ruled out for the rest of the season.
This is a devastating blow for him as he suffered the same injury last year.
Daniel Jones – New York Giants
He suffered an ACL injury in Week 9 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
He is likely to miss the same amount of time Kyler Murray did as he got hurt around the same time last year.
Deshaun Watson – Browns
Browns’ QB Deshaun Watson will be undergoing a season-ending surgery for his broken bone on his throwing shoulder.
As of now, Watson’s 2023 season is over.
Joe Burrows –Bengals
Burrow, leading the Bengals through the season, injured his wrist during the team’s loss vs the Baltimore Ravens.
Questionable at first, Burrow was ruled out for the season with a torn ligament in his wrist.
Fans expressed their opinion as follows:
Guess who my three QBs in a 2 QB league were? Rodgers, Richardson, and Lawrence.
