Since signing to the Buffalo Bills practice squad over a month ago, running back Leonard Fournette has been a non-factor for the team. Despite then-backup running back Damien Harris suffering a neck injury in Week 6, the Bills have elected to use running backs other than Fournette to fill his void. All Fournette can do at this point is sit patiently and wait for his moment.
Recently, the Bills fired offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey, naming quarterbacks coach Joe Brady as the interim offensive coordinator. Brady has given running back Ty Johnson playing time ahead of Fournette and an opportunity to work behind James Cook and Latavius Murray. Despite the lack of playing time, Fournette says he is prepared if his name gets called upon.
“I’m comfortable, up to speed,” Fournette stated, per the Buffalo News’ Jay Skurski. “I’m ready, man. Just waiting for my opportunity.”
With the Bills coming off their bye in Week 13, the team has had extra time to find ways to incorporate Fournette into their game plan.
Fournette was the No. 4 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft and has been a workhorse running back on every team he’s played for, so this is unchartered territory for him.
“Of course, my first time really being in this position, so you know, I have my day,” Fournette added.
It remains to be seen when/if Fournette will get an opportunity this season, but he remains ready and hopeful.
