The Waterboy script in football is more akin to Adam Sandler but it came to life as the Jaguars lost a thriller to the Bengals last night.
Jacksonville head coach Doug Pederson takes responsibility for the incident which was flagged by the officials.
The Jaguars gave away a timeout when a waterboy took to the field at the wrong time.
The HC said tight end Evan Engram wanted water and the waterboy, not knowing what was going on, gave it to him.
“Evan was asking for some water after a play that he made, and — just ran onto the field,” Pederson said. “It’s just unfortunate. Obviously, it’s my responsibility. It’s an unsportsmanlike and they take a timeout away.”
The Bengals won the game 34-31 after an excellent performance by quarterback Jake Browning, who had been standing in for the injured Joe Burrow.
He went 32-37 with 354 yards and one touchdown.
But it was the waterboy flagging that got the team flustered and ultimately the final responsibility falls on the head coach.
Whether this costs them a playoff place remains to be seen but at 8-4 Jacksonville should squeeze into the post season
