In a recent heartfelt video, Alex Rodriguez underscored the vital significance of mental health for athletes, emphasizing its impact not only during competitions but also in their lives and the importance of a performance coach.

Acknowledging the relevance of mental well-being in sports, especially baseball, Rodriguez emphasized its broader importance across various sports and the impact on the self-esteem of the upcoming generation.

Mental health is very pertinent subject right now not only for baseball but for sports and as I was talking about self esteem is across all our children in next generation. But its not only psychology, I call it more of a performance coach right, I remember george steinbrenner brought us a psychologist, he sath there for two years not one guy went into his office. couple of years later he reintroduced him as a performance coach, he had 24 out of 25 there, right. Sometimes its just stigma, I just call him performance coach. coz, by the way you’r a ceo, we need a performance coach. if you’re swinging you want to be a quarterback, Tom Brady, Derek Jeter, Myself we all need performance coaches. I think it’s very important and I think we need to do even more. : Said Alex Rodriguez

In the video, Rodriguez shared insights into the stigma surrounding mental health, noting that sometimes it’s merely about perception. He suggested reframing the conversation by labeling psychologists as performance coaches. Drawing from personal experience with the New York Yankees, Rodriguez recalled how initially, players were hesitant to visit a psychologist. However, when reintroduced as performance coaches, the response was overwhelmingly positive, with 24 out of 25 players seeking guidance.

Rodriguez extended the concept beyond sports, highlighting its applicability to various fields. He emphasized the need for performance coaches not only in athletics but also in executive roles like CEOs. Whether you’re a quarterback like Tom Brady, a baseball icon like Derek Jeter, or even Rodriguez himself, the idea is that everyone can benefit from having a performance coach, both personally and professionally. Rodriguez encourages a broader acceptance of this concept and advocates for increased efforts in this vital area of well-being
