San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel thinks it should be in the bag for his quarterback, Brock Purdy. “Man, my boy number one right now,” Samuel said during an appearance on Up & Adams.
Purdy has completed 70.2% of his passes at an average of 9.6 yards per attempt, with 23 touchdowns against 6 interceptions.
He leads the league in completion rate, yards per attempt, passer rating, QBR, and EPA/play.
He’s benefitted from a strong supporting cast and some degree of interception luck (Pro Football Focus has him with the 12th-highest turnover-worthy play rate among 39 qualified passers), but the production has been there, and Purdy has been a key cog in what is right now the NFL’s best offense by a variety of metrics.
As for what he needs to do to actually claim the trophy at the end of the season,
“He’s just got to keep stacking games, stacking days, stacking weeks,”
Samuel said.
Purdy is currently the favorite to win the MVP award at Caesars Sportsbook, and the 49ers are similarly the favorites to win the Super Bowl. 49ers receiver Deebo Samuel is the campaign manager for Purdy.
“Man, my boy number one right now,”
Samuel told Kay Adams on Tuesday, via 49erswebzone.
Purdy leads the league with a 116.1 passer rating, throwing for 23 touchdowns with six interceptions.
“We got to go out here and continue to make plays for him, and I think he’ll get the job done as far as the MVP conversation,”
Samuel said of Purdy.
“But I don’t think that’s his ideal goal as far as something that he really wants to accomplish right now.”
Following Sunday’s decisive 42-19 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles, there is a lot of chatter surrounding Brock Purdy’s chances of winning the NFL MVP award.
Purdy played a pivotal role in helping his teammate, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, amass impressive numbers against the Eagles.
Purdy completed 19 of his 27 passing attempts for 314 yards and four touchdowns, finishing with a 148. 8 passer rating against the Eagles.
As far as Samuel is concerned, there is no doubt Purdy should clinch the NFL MVP award this season.
“Man, my boy number one right now,”
Samuel told Kay Adams Tuesday morning.
When asked what Purdy needs to do to maintain his MVP frontrunner status, Samuel commented,
“He’s just got to keep stacking games, stacking days, stacking weeks.”

Week 13 presented an opportunity for redemption for the 49ers, who were eliminated from the playoffs by the Eagles last season after Purdy sustained an early injury.
While there was a lot of outside chatter, the 49ers quarterback doesn’t pay much attention to that.
Samuel said,
“I don’t think Brock is paying attention to none of the outside noise or anything like that because not once all week was, he like, Yo, let’s get ready for this game.”
Fans expressed their opinion as follows:
I mean he's playing well an deserves his name to be mentioned, but I don't think so.

The idea that Brock Purdy could be MVP and Russell Wilson has never even received a vote shows how completely upside down the planet is at the moment. pic.twitter.com/M9o1QhMRW9

When my friend and extreme Iowa State fan/graduate says “Mac Jones would be league MVP with SF players and coaching” I’m gonna say it’s a huge debate.

He throws passes less than 15 yards and the skill players do the rest. That’s not a bad thing but dink has dunk ain’t winning the MVP.

Deebo was hurt for three games and Brock Purdy looked like Zach Wilson. I get trying to gas up your guy though and I respect that.

Purdy is playing good football. He’s also in an ideal situation. Not trying to take anything away from him but I’m not sold on him as the MVP of his own team, never mind the entire league.

We all see it, but MVPurdy of Super Bowl is better…but unless he has a Steve Young type of day (and he might) CMC or Deebo getting that MVP

Purdy is playing really good but the offense seems like a plug and play situation. This should be the year a non QB wins it

There it is… Since Deebo said "it ain't even up for debate", it must be true and nobody can have a different opinion.
