The former Las Vegas Raiders coach, Jon Gruden, filed a lawsuit against the National Football League and its commissioner, Roger Goodell, for leaking his emails, which subsequently stimulated his retirement.
Now, after more than two years, the Nevada Supreme Court will consider whether the case should be forwarded to arbitration. According to Pro Football Talk, via A.J. Perez of Front Office Sports, the hearing of the case will be televised and the three-judge panel will hear the case. The hearing is scheduled for January 10th.
However, the league wishes to forward the matter to the court, which is undertaken by them and resolved by the commissioner or his candidate. The NFL is adamant that the case should not go to a public court, as it will ultimately reveal who was responsible for leaking Gruden’s email.
Advancing the arbitration defence argument also achieves the league’s other objective, which is to delay the case and, hence, further hold-ups.
The case was filed in November 2021 and hasn’t moved far ahead. The case will only move forward when Gruden’s objection to arbitration succeeds. If Gruden prevails, then a different judge will handle the case. According to PFT via Perez, Nancy Aliff will be retiring from the services on January 11th.
