“Pat locked my sh*t up. The rest of the 4th quarter I didn’t score a point” – Donovan Mitchell recounts how Pat Beverley embarrassed him in front of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his family

Donovan Mitchell once chose the wrong type to talk trash. During an interview on Tidal League, the Cleveland Cavaliers star guard shared a story from his time with the Utah Jazz when they were playing against the Los Angeles Clippers while star boxer Floyd Mayweather sat courtside.

“I"m hype, because I"ve never had anyone like this sitting courtside,"

Mitchell said.

“And [Mayweather"s] talking to me."

Mitchell went on to explain that he had not been playing well for most of the game, and then Clippers guard Patrick Beverley was talking trash.

“You know Patrick, he"s talking and talking,"

Mitchell said.

Mayweather then even got in on the trash talk.

“Floyd"s hyping me up. He"s got his whole bag of money sitting there, talking s–t to Pat."

Anyone who knows Beverley, knows that talking trash back to him will only add motivation.

“Pat locked my s–t up the rest of the fourth quarter, I didn"t score a point,"

Mitchel said.

Mitchell spent five seasons with Utah before he was traded to the Cavaliers prior to last season. The Cleveland Cavaliers have had an up and down season thus far, but Cavs guard Donovan Mitchell has continued to be an offensive force.

Few people can stop the Cavs star from getting what he wants offensively but, at least for one stretch, Patrick Beverly was able to shut Mitchell down with some help from Floyd Mayweather.

On the ‘Run Your Race" podcast, Mitchell talked about lighting up the Clippers until Mayweather talked some junk to Beverly and got him to lock Mitchell up for the rest of the quarter:

"We played against the Clippers. Floyd [Mayweather] was sitting courtside… Patrick Beverley was on the Clippers, and he was talking… I run off 13 straight [points] off different actions… Now Floyd"s talking sh*t to Pat… Pat locked my sh*t up the rest of the 4th quarter."

The Cavs bounced back from what they considered the worst loss of the season – a 103-95 defeat to the Portland Trail Blazers – to drop the Detroit Pistons 110-101.

"Just trying to get an understanding of where we are going and how we are going to get there,"

Bickerstaff said of the discussion in the locker room.

During a Tidal League interview, Donovan Mitchell from the Cleveland Cavaliers reminisced about his time with the Utah Jazz.

He recounted a story from a 2021 playoffs match against Patrick Beverley of the Los Angeles Clippers and vividly described the presence of boxing legend Floyd Mayweather sitting courtside.

Patrick Beverley, a defensive stalwart for the Los Angeles Clippers, played a crucial role in their first NBA Western Conference Finals appearance.

During the interview, Mitchell recounted a story of the events that unfolded while competing against Beverley in the series.

We"re playing against the Clippers. Floyd was sitting courtside. Now I"m hyped, because I ain"t never had nobody like this sitting courtside.

Patrick Beverley was on the Clippers at the time, and I"m not playing well at all.

Now Floyd is hyping me up, talking sh-t to Pat. Pat locked my sh-t up, the rest of the 4th quarter I didn"t score a point.

Despite Donovan Mitchell and his Jazz team losing in the semifinals to the Clippers, the memorable battle against Patrick Beverley will be fondly remembered.

Donovan Mitchell reflects on an incident during his time with the Utah Jazz when he fell into the trap of trash-talking with Patrick Beverley while Floyd Mayweather sat courtside.

Mitchell admits that he learned his lesson and that engaging in antics like that can negatively affect his performance.

This story highlights the potential distractions and negative consequences that can come from engaging in trash-talking and getting caught up in the antics on the court.

Donovan Mitchell"s experience with Patrick Beverley and Floyd Mayweather shows the importance of staying focused and not allowing distractions to affect performance on the court.
