One of the most respected baseball reporters and Andy Martino has strongly suggested the Yankees may yet make a play for Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
The Mets may not be happy as they have their eyes set on the Japanese player and would have thought that the Yankees would be happy with Juan Soto.
According to Martino, “The Yankees have a strong desire to land Yamamoto and a willingness to show Evil Empire levels of financial aggressiveness. The Mets had hoped that the Yanks’ acquisition of Juan Soto would take them out of the Yamamoto sweepstakes, but Hal Steinbrenner remains all-in on spending even after completing the Soto trade, per sources.”
Yamamoto currently plays for the Orix Buffaloes in the Nippon Professional Baseball league, but he could be US bound.
The pitcher is the first Triple Crown winner in history and boasts 922 strikeouts.
“This is going to come down to the Mets and Yankees,” another source close to the matter said. “They both think they need him badly — and they do. Get your popcorn ready. This could be fun.”
