This past Monday, the NFL had a rare scheduling occurrence that featured not just one, but two primetime games on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. As a result of dual games, ESPN’s alternative broadcast of Monday Night Football hosted by the Manning brothers, Peyton and Eli, took a hit in the ratings department this week.
The Manning Brothers are both legendary NFL Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks who have decided to take their talents to the broadcasting booth with ESPN in 2021. Since then, many fans have taken a liking to the alternate broadcast and tuned into it over the original broadcast. However, on Monday’s doubleheader, the ManningCast peaked at around 940,000 viewers.
Typically, the broadcast attracts a lot of viewers, regularly exceeding one million views. However, it is important to note that ABC has been simulcasting Monday Night Football games this season, which has impacted ESPN and ESPN2’s viewership tallies.
Not to mention, neither game heading into Monday night was expected to be very compelling, with the Miami Dolphins being double-digit favorites against the Tennessee Titans and the Green Bay Packers facing a New York Giants team down to their third-string quarterback, Tommy DeVito.
The viewership rates suggest that ESPN’s decision to broadcast two games at the same time during Monday Night Football took a toll on the ManningCast’s output this week, among other factors.
