The Major Baseball League had a two-year rights deal with NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service, which has now expired. The future steps regarding the deal are uncertain.
According to the Front Sports Office, the MLB deal was for $30 million, which was a small package considering the other deals MLB had with other networks.
With the Fox network, the deal was $729 million per year; with ESPN, it consisted of $560 million; the deal with Apple was for $85 million; and with Warner Bros. Discovery, it was for $535 million.
The Peacock service is owned and operated by Peacock TV LLC, which is a subsidiary of NBCUniversal Television. The streaming platform has deals with the Premier League, PGA Tour, NFL, Big Ten, Notre Dame, and Olympics.
The dilution of the Peacock deal with Major League Baseball has come at a time when the league is facing the consequences of the bankruptcy of Diamond Sports Group.
MLB’s two-year rights deal with Peacock expired with the end of the 2023 season — and the future of the package is uncertain, @AEricFisher writes.
