Klutch Sports Group Expands Dominance with Acquisition of Rep 1 Baseball, Launching Klutch Baseball Division

The spotlight shines on Klutch Sports Group’s latest huge move in this dynamic industry.

Founded by Rich Paul, Klutch Sports Group has carved a stellar reputation in representing the crème de la crème in NBA and NFL, including basketball superstar Lebron James and football sensation Jalen Hurts.

The group has secured full control of Rep 1 Baseball, a well-established and robust sports representation agency devoted to professional baseball players.

By doing so, Klutch paces one step closer to becoming a dominant figure in sports representation across different spectrums.

Klutch is primed to launch an entirely novel division – ‘Klutch Baseball.’ Steering the ship is Chris Koras, the current CEO of Rep 1.

Specific terms of the deal remain confidential, but the merging of the two titans promises a seismic shift in sports representation.

“We believe in the transformative power of sports, and this move into baseball aligns perfectly with our commitment to excellence, innovation, and best-in-class representation for the world’s most talented athletes,” Klutch CEO and co-head of UTA Sports Rich Paul said in a statement. “The game of baseball has a special place in the hearts of sports fans around the world, and we’re thrilled to extend Klutch’s reach into this sport and to welcome Chris, the team, and their clients to Klutch.”

“Meaningful progress in baseball representation is long overdue,” Koras said of the deal. “This move signals a shift in conventional thinking and reinforces our commitment to our clients by uniting our exceptional contract negotiations and servicing with the expansive client-focused 360 approach and cultural significance that UTA and Klutch are known for. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to elevate player expectations as they seek fulfillment during and long after their playing careers.”

The strategic affiliation between Klutch Sports Group and United Talent Agency (UTA) dates back to 2019. This collaboration led to the establishment of UTA’s sports representation practice accompanied by an equity stake for UTA in Klutch.

By incorporating Rep 1, UTA Sports, under the leadership of Rich Paul and Andrew Thau, is set to expand exponentially.

Entering the baseball realm, Klutch Baseball is set to represent a host of Major League Baseball stars, including the likes of Rafael Devers and Starling Marte, thereby diversifying and enriching its portfolio.

The acquisition will also see Rep 1’s expert leadership team, responsible for negotiating over $2 billion in contracts, join the Klutch family.

UTA has recorded discreet, yet significant expansion over the last few years, securing a lucrative investment from the private equity firm EQT.

This year alone, UTA has launched a fashion division, acquired the literary agency Fletcher & Company, and bought over the headhunting firm James & Co. as part of its executive search division strategy.

Exemplifying UTA’s financial potency, a significant deal worth noting was the acquisition of consultancy MediaLink in 2021 for a whopping $125 million.

According to verified sources, MediaLink and Cannes Lions marketing festival are currently in talks over a potential acquisition, a deal that could further cement UTA’s position in the industry.

“Sports is an important part of UTA’s long-term strategy, with Klutch and its growing representation business at the heart of our vision,” adds Thau, the COO of UTA who was named co-head of UTA Sports earlier this year. “The formation of Klutch Baseball adds another exciting dimension to the range of talent we represent and the expanding capabilities we can offer them.”
