Ohtani No. 17 jersey reached a sales record, on Wednesday it set the record for the highest sales within 48 hours of a jersey release. Apparently he surpassed the record previously set by Messi’s Inter Miami CF jersey release.
The record sales was announced by the league’s merchandise supplier Fanatics via tweet, Ohtani set a new record for the most jersey sales in a 48-hour period.
As reported he crossed the likes of soccer star Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo and also Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields and Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Bryce Harper.
Earlier, Ohtani had finished second on the MLB top-selling jersey list back in July. The pitcher/slugger was toppled by Atlanta Braves star outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr.
The record high jersey sale came after his Sixty-eight million of $70 million yearly salary is being deferred until the conclusion of the deal, which will be paid out from 2034 to 2043.
Ohtani potential to throw 100 mph and to hit a ball 500 feet is why fans are lined up for the No.17 jersey. He has also won two MVP Awards in the last three years.
