He improved his pro record to 8-1 with five knockouts with a first-round stoppage victory over cruiser weight Andre August in a main event fight on Friday night.
Signaling to establish himself as a cruiser weight title contender, Paul (8-1, 5 KO’s) uncorked a right uppercut that caught August clean and bounced him off the canvas headfirst. The referee waved the bout off with 28 seconds remaining in the opening round.
Paul, 26, knocked out August with a right uppercut in Round 1, recording his pro record to 10-2-1 with five knockouts.
This also marked Paul’s first return to the ring since, outpointing mixed martial arts legend and former UFC Championship contender Nate Diaz in 10 boxing rounds this past April.
It is also Paul’s second outing against a professional boxer, following his points’ loss to Tommy Fury in February.
Paul said during a post-fight interview on DAZN,
“I said first-round all week. I manifested this. This is the power of manifestation. And I said I needed to bring back the old Problem Child. I’ve been too nice to these people, letting them go into the later rounds. Set up my shot and he went night-night.”
Commenting on his way ahead,
“I don’t know what I proved tonight, you know. I’m just going to do me. This is part of the process, the next step to becoming a world champion. … All I wanted to do was give y’all a knockout for Christmas.”
Paul now has two wins since suffering his first defeat, a split decision loss to Tommy Fury.
