After playing an effective role in coaching a team in New England, Matt Patricia is returning to his familiar territory of running a defense, this time with the Philadelphia Eagles.
As confirmed by Jay Glazer of Fox Sports, Patricia has been appointed as the new defensive coordinator of the Eagles, replacing Sean Desai.

The change of guard within the organization does not signal the end for Desai, however, who is reported to continue with the team although in a different role.
Patricia will be at the helm with a more active role, directing the defense and making crucial play calls.
While official confirmation is still awaited from the Eagles, there is solid grounding for the change.
Desai, who was until recently coordinating the defense for the team, is now reported to have shifted responsibilities, which paves the way for Patricia.
Factually, no details have been leaked regarding when the reshuffle was made or why the move was not officially announced by the organization.
The latest press conference involving Desai, which took place on Wednesday, saw him under the title of defensive coordinator.
Both Desai and Patricia still retain their previous designations as per the official team’s website.
Desai is visible on the radar as the “defensive coordinator,” while Patricia is listed as the “senior defensive assistant.”
Thus far, the Philadelphia Eagles have not made any public statement regarding the switch of roles between the two skilled professionals within the franchise.
Despite the change in leadership, the Eagles’ defense doesn’t stand in quivering waters. With Patricia’s extensive experience in running a robust defense, the fans can anticipate hard-setting tactics on the field.
What remains to be seen is the tweaking in the Eagles’ game plan, which is sure to bear the signature of Patricia’s defensive creativity.
