“We’re a fundamentally poor football group right now” Steelers HC Mike Tomlin accedes to squad’s lackluster performance against Colts but assures improved performance against Bengals

The Pittsburgh Steelers faced a loss at the hands of the Indianapolis Colts, with a concluding score of 30-13. Their chances seem to be waning according to their regular season standing, as they are currently at 7-7.

The Steelers were leading during the second quarter, but their hopes soon diminished as the Colts were able to overcome their dominance and maintain that till the conclusion of the game.

Their post-season walk has been made more difficult as the Steelers have encountered back-to-back losses. The Steelers squad was missing two crucial players and was missing points in the game.

Looking at the stats, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin also expressed, “we can’t play football like that” and also took responsibility over his back regarding the substandard performance of the team.

The head coach knows and understands that at this stage, every win matters and loss will only make their road tough; he also states, “Everything’s on the table at this juncture”.

According to Pro Football Talk via the Steelers official site, Tomlin further shared, “Let’s be honest. We’re a fundamentally poor football group right now. We’re playing losing football. And I take responsibility for that. By losing football, I mean, we’re just not doing fundamental things well enough. We’re not. We’re turning the ball over. We’re highly penalized. We don’t play good in situations. And so, I’m just acknowledging that.”

“I don’t necessarily have the answers as we sit here today. If I had the answers, we would have played differently today. But I will acknowledge things won’t continue the way that they are.”

“We’re not going to keep doing the same things that we’re doing and expect or hope for a different result. And so, we got a seven day turn around. We’ll see what those seven days hold for us.”

“But I’m just acknowledging right now that we’re playing losing football, and I own that. Not a good day.”

In the fourth quarter, the head coach selected quarterback Mitch Trubisky, substituting Mason Rudolph. However, unfavourably for the Steelers, quarterback Kenny Pickett is recuperating as he has sustained an injury.

Tomlin was questioned about who would start against the Cincinnati Bengals and he stated, “Again, I don’t have answers as I sit here right now. I know that we better do some things differently. We better approach some things differently. We’re not going to roll that ball out there like that next week.”
