Following a bitter 42-17 defeat by the Lions, Broncos head coach Sean Payton appeared to be embroiled in an altercation with his quarterback, Russell Wilson.
Questions from reporters suggested that Payton’s frustration with Wilson transpired during the game itself.
However, Payton clarified that his ire was directed toward an offside penalty that negated a Broncos touchdown rather than a disagreement with Wilson.
Never wavering from their pursuit of hard-hitting stories, the sports press corps continued to press Payton about his interactions with Wilson.
Despite their incessant enquiries, Payton refused to be drawn on the matter, maintaining that the matter was not open for public discussion.
“What I talk with Russell about is none of your business,” Payton said.
Despite Payton’s comments, the dismal loss against the Lions after the Broncos had seemingly gotten back into playoff contention hinted at internal strife within the Broncos’ camp.
“Frustrating night,” Payton said. “It’s tough to have one of these nights.”
