Earlier this week, Cam Newton made a statement claiming QB Jared Goff, Dak Prescott, Brock Purdy, and Tua Tagovailoa are “game managers,” not “game changers.”

After his comment in an episode of his 4th and 1 YouTube show, invited backlashed and sparked some beef with ESPN and FS1.
Newton said,
“If we were to put that in its own right as ‘game manager,’ Brock Purdy, Tua Tagovailoa, Jared Goff and really, Dak Prescott. These are game managers. They’re not difference makers.”
On Wednesday, ESPN and FS1 commentators including Kimberley A. Martin, Domonique Foxworth, Skip Bayless, and Jason McIntyre blasted Newton. Martin roasted the free agent quarterback Newton on the morning’s episode of Get Up!

Martin roasted Newton on the episode of Get Up, he said,
“In the year 2023, where it’s all about NFL backups, where is Cam? Not on an NFL roster, right? So he’s talking about all these NFL game managers. He sounds like the people literally tweeting at me from their basement like, get back in the kitchen. Like you are at home watching me. Just turn the TV off. It just sounds so foolish.”
In response, Newton seems to be bothered by the backlash, calling out ESPN and FS1. He claimed some of their responses weren’t aimed at his take, they were aimed at him personally.
He said,
“The thing that I have a problem with is, addressing the point that I made, not me,” Newton said. “And oftentimes that happens in regard to athletes trying to make their point.”
Newton added,
“My definition of that managing player is a player who has the ability to make the right play at the right time, protecting the football at all costs. When I think about ultimate elite game managers, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Tom Brady.”
The lashing out at Newton was sparked as each player had their teams in contention for a Super Bowl.
