The Nebraska Cornhuskers women’s volleyball team may have lost in the NCAA national championship against Texas, but they broke attendance records all season.
Attention for women’s college volleyball has never been higher and it is in no small thanks to the Nebraska team.
They reached the championship game but fell to Texas, who won their second straight national title.
The game was watched by an NCAA volleyball indoor record of 19,727 packer into the Amalie Arena.
Nebraska hosted the most seasonal fans with a total of 255,953.
The pinnacle of viewing audience was in evidence on Volleyball Day at Nebraska with a world record live attendance of 92,003 fans.
The event held on August 30 set is the new world benchmark for the global attendance record for any women’s sporting event.
For the event a court was built on the football field at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, testament that the sport in the USA is reaching a crescendo ahead of the Olympics in Paris.
More than 92,000 fans packed the stadium eclipsing the soccer Champions League soccer game between Barcelona and Wolfsburg.
Texas defeated Nebraska 3-0 to claim the title, but the winner was women’s sport in the country.
