After Saturday’s win, Bengals quarterback Jake Browning recalled the times he spent two years in Minnesota on the practice squad.
The 27-year-old signal-caller signed with Minnesota after going undrafted in 2019 and has been a practice squad member for the Vikings from 2019-2021.
Browning joined the Bengals in September 2021 and this season he filled in for Joe Burrow for the remainder of the season, after Burrow suffered a season-ending injury.
In the Saturday game, Browning started for the fourth time in his career. After trailing 17-3 late in the third quarter, Browning threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns in the last 15 minutes alone, and in overtime.
He completed 29-of-42 (69.1 percent) passing attempts for 324 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, to improve his record to 3-1 as a starter.
The Bengals released footage on Sunday afternoon, where Browning was seen passionately yelling into the camera after Evan McPherson kicked the game-winning field goal in overtime.
In the video, Browning yelled after slamming his helmet and was seen saying,
“They never should’ve f****** cut me!”
After the game, he was asked about it by WCPO 9 News in Cincinnati during his postgame press conference, he said,
“I think the emotional roller coaster is part of the game. There was definitely a little extra part (motivation). Just before the game, I remember getting cut there the last time and just being told like, Hey we might have a spot for you on the practice squad. Like go in the hotel and wait.”
The current Bengals QB led three consecutive touchdown drives in the fourth quarter to get the game into overtime, authoring a comeback win over Minnesota.
