“They don’t do anything” Cris Collinsworth Faces Backlash Over Controversial Remarks on Backup Quarterbacks’ Physiques

The Los Angeles Chargers have recently lost against the Buffalo Bills and the concluding score after the fourth quarter was 22-24. One of the points of the game that caught the attention was Chris Collinsworth’s remarks regarding the backup quarterbacks.

The backup quarterbacks don’t play much during the season, as it depends on the opportunities they get accordingly. The thought-provoking take of Collinsworth came for the extra players assigned.

The NFL announcer expressed his thoughts when he was engaged with Mike Tirico as they were discussing the current state of the league. According to Awful Announcing, Easton Stick, the Chargers quarterback, made his second game against the Bills and there was improvement compared to the last game he played against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore was taken into consideration by Mike Tirico as he expressed that he “actually had Easton Stick for a week of practice.”

As per Yahoo Sports, Collinsworth replied, “When you’re the backup quarterback, you can go months without even taking a single play in practice. So give him a little bit of time, give him a little practice. Let’s see what happens now.”

Tirico also took upon the fact about the practice opportunities given to second quarterbacks, claiming that it “sounds insane” and teams must exercise caution when running the players. Saying, “It sounds insane to fans. Like how do you not give your backup snaps? You realize with a long season, you can’t run your guys in the ground Monday through Thursday.”

Then Collinsworth said, “That’s the reason a lot of backup quarterbacks are fat. They don’t do anything.”

To which Tirico humorously said, “C-O-L-L-I-N-S. Send ’em to Cris. I love the backup quarterback.”
