Over the weekend, Shohei Ohtani, the newest member of the Los Angeles Dodgers, surprised teammate Joe Kelly’s wife, Ashley, with a brand-new silver Porsche.
Ashley shared the exciting moment on Instagram, capturing her reaction as she opened the front door to find the luxury car waiting for her.
The delivery driver informed her, “It’s yours. He wanted to gift you a Porsche.”
It left Ashley in disbelief.
She expressed her astonishment with a surprised “Shut the…” before the video cut off.
In her IG post, Ashley captioned the video:
“Shokai’s beautiful bra-less mom opened the door to one of the coolest days of her life. Thank you.”
One of the fans commented:
“That’s wild! What a guy! How can anyone not love Shohei! Doesn’t matter if he’s with a gazillion dollars a 150K car is an incredible gesture.”
Another fan playfully wrote, “That’s Sugar daddy energy right there. Sugar Shohei!”
So, out of all the Dodgers teammates’ wives and girlfriends, why Ashley Kelly?
Apparently, Ashley Kelly had actively campaigned for Shohei Ohtani to join the Los Angeles Dodgers through her “Ohtake17” Instagram initiative.
In a humorous approach, she showcased all the No. 17 gear in her family’s collection, offering to adapt it for Ohtani.
Plus, Ashley also jokingly proposed to rename their baby, Kai, to ShoKai.
When Shohei Ohtani inked his record-breaking $700 million, 10-year contract with the Dodgers on December 9, Ashley celebrated by tossing all her No. 17 Kelly apparel onto her front lawn and improvising a “Kelly 99” on her husband’s shirt.
As part of the deal, Joe Kelly, who recently signed a new contract with the Dodgers, graciously gave up his jersey number 17 to Ohtani.
Kelly had worn the same number during his six-year tenure with the Angels and in 2022 and 2023 with the Chicago White Sox.
The veteran reliever will now sport No. 99 for the Dodgers.
Kelly explained his decision, saying:
“I wasn’t going to give it up to just anybody. If Shohei keeps performing, he’ll be a future Hall of Famer, and I’ll be able to have my number retired. That’s the closest I’ll get to the Hall of Fame.”
Shohei Ohtani’s gift of the Porsche to Ashley Kelly seems to be a gracious return gesture.
On March 20, Shohei Ohtani will make his debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers as part of the Seoul Series.
