One thing the Pat McAfee Show is not, and that is a reliable reporter of fact.
They are an entertaining TV show, with insights, opinions, humor and analysis.
Producer Ty Schmit incorrectly stated that the biggest free agent signing of the MLB season Yoshinobu Yamamoto, had been scooped up by the New York Yankees.
He is in fact off to the Dodgers for $325 million over 12 years.
“A lot of people are calling for you to get fired,” McAfee said. “I want to let you know to step back in that batter’s box the next time you get a source.
“That was the biggest story in baseball, maybe we don’t try to jump right to the top of the entire thing. But I appreciate that it came from a good place,” McAfee added.
Schmit responded, “I’m already trying to order a Yamamoto jersey in that moment.”
“I cannot wait to wear this thing on the show next week.”
In a Friday screening of the PMS, ESPN senior MLB insider Jeff Passan responded to the false reporting, calling Schmit a “spectacular scumbag” in a Lou Holtz voice. This was done in satire of course, as Schmit is a diehard Yankees fan and jumping the gun is not unheard of in the media or in the bleachers.
