The New York Yankees got some bad news prior to the holiday season when they missed out on landing Japanese phenom Yoshinobu Yamamoto. But, despite the disappointment that the Yankees were dealt, that didn’t put a damper on two of the franchise legends’ holidays this year.
Derek Jeter posted some pictures on his social media accounts with him hanging out with Jorge Posada on Dec. 24. Posada has on a sweater that says “What the Elf?” paired with some green and white striped pants and the same antlers Jeter has on.

Prior to playing together for 16 years in New York, Jeter and Posada were teammates in the franchise’s minor league pipeline.
Both legends made their Major League debuts in the 1995 season and became integral parts of the Yankees’ dynasty throughout the late 90s and early 2000s and each had their jerseys retired by the organization.
It’s great to see both players still in touch and remaining friends, getting together on Christmas Eve as documented by Jeter’s social media posts. When Jorge Posada and Derek Jeter played for the New York Yankees, the franchise was a force in the MLB.
Posada won four World Series in New York, while Jeter came away with five. All good things must come to an end, but Yankees fans will be disappointed at not winning one since 2009, when both of these stars were on their roster.
The New York Yankees have won 27 World Series titles in their history, an MLB record, but their last came in 2009. It is fair to say the Yankees struggled to stay at the top after Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada and company retired.
While the Yankees are still one of the biggest teams in baseball, they are coming off a disappointing 2023 season where they went 82-80 and finished fourth in the AL East.
To bolster their ambitions in 2024, the Yankees landed Juan Soto in a seven-player trade from the San Diego Padres. While a contract extension has yet to be agreed upon, this trade makes New York a much stronger team.
Some analysts think the addition of Soto changes the Yankees’ outlook entirely, but it remains to be seen whether that will be the case. Fans will certainly be hoping so.
Fans were nostalgic, and reacted as follows:
