“I belong, In the NFl” Tommy DeVito Reflects on Unexpected Stint as Giants’ Starting QB Amid Injuries and Win Streak

Tommy DeVito of the New York Giants came into the 2023 season as the third-choice quarterback but was thrust into the limelight after a raft of injuries.

He made a starting appearance in a clutch of losing causes after injuries to Daniel Jones and Tyrod Taylor before a three-game win streak turned him into a cult figure.

But Taylor will start against the Rams this weekend.

When asked what takeaway he can take from an impressive patch in the middle of the season DeVito was optimistic.

He came into the team in week 8 against the Jets.

He started in week 10 against the Cowboys before an interesting week 11 clash against the Commanders. He was sacked nine times in one game, becoming the first QB since 1992 to be sacked 9 times and winning the game.

He said now he feels “that I belong,” DeVito said. “In the NFL, specifically. I mean, just to go out and to prove that to myself. To the younger me, to the me that was training to be here to this point. That’s all it is.”

He could go back to reserve status in the years to come, but if he gets another chance, he will be out to grab it with both hands.

He was signed to the Giants in 2023 as an undrafted free agent but can now count starting games in the NFL to his CV.
