Former Cowboys player Hunter Niswander and his wife Corinne rushed to reach Hillcrest Hospital for the delivery of their second daughter. The couple embarked on the 422 West route. However, a mere 10 minutes into their 20-minute drive, it became evident they wouldn’t make it to the hospital in time.

With urgency mounting, Corinne directed Hunter to pull over, transforming the roadside into an impromptu birthing space. And, they had to welcome their second baby in the sidewalk along 422 West.

Hunter recalls, “Things started to progress pretty quickly once we realized, you know, the baby is coming.”

Corinne adds, “I was like, ‘Okay, it kind of hurts now, but I’m gonna breathe through it, and when I get to the hospital, it’s gonna be all better. And then it got worse very quick.”

Hunter dialed 911, alerting emergency services to the imminent delivery saying, “We’re on the side of the highway … my wife is having a baby!”

The situation intensified as Corinne experiences increasing pain.

Miraculously, the baby girl was finally born, but concerns arose about her breathing.

Next, the dispatcher on the call asked, “Is the baby breathing?”

Hunter’s wife, Corinne reveals the tense moment, “Honestly in my head, I was like, ‘Please God, please God. Please let her be okay.’ When she came out, I mean, she came out blue, like completely blue. And then we realized that the cord was around her neck twice. So I quickly unwrapped it, and Hunter was frantically searching for, luckily, our toddler’s beanies and blankets.”

As the baby started crying, the first responders from the Solon Fire Department arrived to assist.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Hunter wrote:

“My wife is a champ!!! And God is so good! Mama and baby are doing great! And yes, I got to deliver our baby on the side of the highway! Shoutout to our local fire department and EMTs… you all got there so fast and helped tremendously!”

Hunter Niswander and Corinne Niswander first met at Northwestern University in 2016 through a group called Christian Athletes in Action (AIA).

They fell in love quickly, and in March 2018, they got engaged. The couple then got married on July 1st of the same year.

Now, they are proud parents to two baby girls!

Hunter Niswander started playing football as a punter at Northwestern University. He went from being a backup to the main punter and did well in college. Even though he faced some challenges, like not making it with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he got a chance to play in the XFL with the DC Defenders in 2020.

His good performance in the XFL caught the attention of the Dallas Cowboys. They added him to their practice squad in October 2020. Because he consistently punted well, he got promoted to the main team, taking over from Chris Jones. He did so well that the Cowboys decided to let go of Jones in 2021. However, Niswander had to compete with Bryan Anger, so he also started learning how to do placekicking during training camp.

Unfortunately, Niswander had some problems, like a back injury in August 2021. This led to him being put on the injured reserve list. Even though he came back from being on the reserve/COVID-19 list, the Cowboys let him go in April 2022.

Then, in May 2023, he joined the Houston Gamblers in the USFL.
