The New York Jets and veteran running back Dalvin Cook have agreed to part ways through the final week of the 2018 season, his front office told NFL Media.
Upon his release, Cook will be eligible to play for the team that will play in the Super Bowl against New England on Sunday when New York’s season ends.
In fact, Rodgers’ run in 2023 lasted just four snaps before he ruptured his Achilles and derailed New York’s season heading into the final week of the season, 6-10 without any argument.
As for Cook, he had 16 touches in Week 1, but his performance declined as the season wore on. He played 50% of the offensive snaps in Week 1 and hasn’t taken more than 36% of the offensive snaps since.
In the Jets’ last game against the Warriors in Week 16, Cook played just five snaps (6%). All that said, the running back will provide a new set of legs for a playgroup looking to bolster its backfield for a Super Bowl run.
Dallas was originally one of the teams expected to land Cook when he was traded from Minnesota, so it makes sense that they’re back in contention now that Cook has been re-signed.
That’s especially true since the Cowboys’ running game, led by Tony Pollard, and hasn’t seen a strong streak this season. Dallas is averaging just 4.1 yards per carry this season, ranking in the top 10 in the league in yards per game.
The Ravens lead the league in rushing yards with an average of 5.0 yards per carry, but they may need to add a back like Cook before they make the playoffs.
The Dolphins may not have much need for De’Von Acane, but Raheem Mostert, who has played in 21 games this season, has struggled with knee and ankle issues in recent weeks.
Mostert was limited in practice before being ruled out last Friday, but if he is below 100%, Cook, a native of Miami, will join the team and could strengthen this division for next season.
Christian McCaffrey will be the frontrunner in this backfield, with everyone else, including Cook, playing second fiddle. He served as the Vikings’ OC in 2019, recording 1,654 scrimmage yards and 13 total touchdowns that year.
After Nick Chubb’s season-ending knee injury in Week 2, the Browns were able to get out of the backfield with Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt shouldering the load, but Cook will continue to play in the postseason.
The New York Jets and veteran running back Dalvin Cook have mutually agreed to part ways. The 28-year-old four-time Pro Bowler signed a one-year, $7 million contract with the Jets in August after being released by the Minnesota Vikings after six seasons.
Cook added 15 more receptions for 78 yards. It was difficult to find playing time behind starter Breece Hall (1,395 total yards, eight touchdowns), who had a strong showing in his second NFL season.

When his tenure in New York ended, Cook was third on the depth chart behind rookie Israel Abanikananda. When on the field, Cook struggled, setting a career low in yards per carry.
Cook looked like a much different back from the player who averaged 4.4 YPC and gained 1,468 total yards (plus 10 scores) the year before.
It remains to be seen if a playoff team takes a chance on Cook to complete their backfield as the 2023 season draws to a close. Dalvin Cook’s season is over with the New York Jets.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the team and the veteran linebacker have agreed to part ways so that Cook can work with an eventual team.
Four-time Pro Bowl RB Dalvin Cook and the #Jets have agreed to part ways to allow Cook a chance to play in the postseason, according to the @LAASportsEnt office.
Cook, 28, joined the Jets in August after being waived by the Minnesota Vikings but has struggled to get an opportunity behind Breece Hall.
Former Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook and his new team, the New York Jets, agreed to part ways Tuesday after just 67 seasons in 28 years.
Dalvin Cook parted ways with the New York Jets According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, who got the scoop on Cook’s agent, Dalvin wants to be part of a team that will make it to the Super Bowl.
Honestly, Dalvin Cook and the Vikings would have been better off this year if they had found a way to stay together.
Cook received $7 million from the Jets, which Minnesota likely won’t give him. Now the Vikings may not make the playoffs, and Cook is trying to find a third team in twelve months.
The Jets have agreed to part ways with Dalvin Cook, according to Cook’s office. — Dalvin Cook’s disappointing season with the New York Jets came to an early end on Tuesday.
The four-time Pro Bowl running back has been suspended for the remainder of Sunday’s game, according to his agency.
The deal was mutually agreed upon and Cook is eligible to seek a playoff team, according to reports. In the 15 games he played, Cook carried the ball just 67 times for 214 yards, 3.2 yards and 1.4 meters short of his career mark.
He finished with just 202 offensive snaps, his lowest total since his rookie year with the Minnesota Vikings in 2017. He said he chose the Jets because they had a chance to play quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the fourth game of the season, who suffered a season-ending torn Achilles tendon.
Before Rodgers’ injury, Cook was considered the final piece of a potential Super Bowl puzzle.
Cook rushed for 13 touchdowns in Week 1, then didn’t reach double figures the rest of the season. The Jets (6-10), who have been out of playoff contention in recent weeks, began using rookie Israel Abanikanda as Hall’s backup, leaving Cook without a role despite his impressive performance.
“I was just hoping a good opportunity would come along.”
NFL Network pundit Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday that Cook, and the Jets have agreed to part ways, depending on the running back’s office. Like many of the Jets’ moves, the Cook signing didn’t work out for the club or the running back. Especially when Aaron Rodgers went down in week one.
The four-time Pro Bowler later had 67 carries for 214 yards in 2023. Signed at the deadline, he caught just one touchdown more than 10 times (13 times for 33 yards in Week 1) and had six games with three or fewer carries.
The New York Jets and Dalvin Cook have agreed to part ways, his agent told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Cook, a four-time Pro Bowler in the past four seasons, is one of the most dynamic players in the NFL but suffered a major setback in his first season with the Jets.
After spending his first six seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, Cook was released over the summer, but signed with New York for a Super Bowl run and improved offense with Aaron Rodgers.

Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon in the team’s first game of the season, Cook has 67 rushing yards on the season, and the Jets have been eliminated from the playoffs and are now on a six-game winning streak.
Cook has rushed for 214 yards in 2023 and has yet to find the end zone this year, but his season isn’t over yet.
If Cook clears the waiver, he can sign with any team for the remainder of the NFL season.
While Cook joined the Jets for a potential Super Bowl appearance, the Jets allowed him to explore his options to join another team with a better chance of winning a championship.
Cook has 67 carries for 214 yards and 15 catches for 78 yards with no touchdowns behind Breece Hall in the Jets’ struggling offense this season.
Cook came to the Jets after six standout seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and over 1,000 yards rushing from 2019-2022. The Dolphins were considered an interim option for Cook before he was traded to the Jets.
