Normally at this stage of the season the coaches without prom dates start their courtship with struggling teams and it’s no different with grizzled Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn.
The Cowboys will he focusing on the playoffs but that will not stop the likes of the Patriots, Chargers, Commanders, Panthers, Cardinals and other suitors from scoping out potential dance partners for next season.
“I think it’s important to know how to compartmentalize,” Quinn told the team’s official website.
The 11-5 Cowboys will be looking to cement the NFC East when they take on Washington in week 18 and will be watching the Eagles, who are also 11-5, and the Giants matchup.
“Fortunately for me, in that space, any preparation you would do on that is done over the summertime. If and when that time gets called, I would certainly be ready to discuss that at a moment’s notice. It’s pretty easy these days to compartmentalize.
Dallas has the NFC leading defense conceding 305 points and that makes Quinn an exciting prospect for an HC position after a stint as HC at the Falcons.
“Quite honestly, the guys that I’m able to coach are a big reason why I wanted to be back here, so I’m not gonna let that moment miss one second.”
Quinn has not interviewed for two successive seasons, choosing the Cowboys first, but he could be looking to break into the big league.
“I didn’t want to see anybody else coaching these guys, and there was unfinished business in my mind,” he said.
“That was a big reason for me knowing that I had unfinished business with them, and I wanted to see that through as much as I could. I absolutely feel that way again. It’s easy to compartmentalize when you stay here now. I live my life in that space anyway, so it’s not as complicated as you might think.”
The Cowboys could be seen as outside contenders for the Superbowl and the next few weeks will probably determine the credentials of Quinn and he could be diving in the deep pool in 2024.
