There is nothing but pride and a losing streak to shatter when the New York Jets take on the Patriots in week 18.
Both teams are far from the playoffs and the Jets have seen another two-digit losing season, and a 13th straight campaign with a playoff presence.
But there will be plenty of juice to play for when they take on Green Bay as the New York team will be out to break a 15-game losing streak against the Patriots.
“The motivation and the vibes around the locker room is going 1-0 this week,” linebacker Quincy Williams told the Associated Press.
“This week, it’s special because it’s a big game, because we play the Patriots. I think the goal is breaking the losing streak, honestly. So with it being the last game, most people (usually) already have their minds set on like their vacation and stuff. It’s not that way in the locker room. So I’m actually excited about that.”
The last time the Green Gang defeated Bill Belichick’s men was in 2015.
“I mean, it’s not something that’s like verbally talked about,” Williams said of the losing streak. “But I can say it might be some side-type conversations, but it’s in the back of everyone heads, for sure, just because of the rivalry of the team, really.”
Earlier in the season, in week 3, the Patriots defeated the Jets 15-10.
New England are bottom of the AFC East with four wins while the Jets are 6-10.
This could be Belichick’s last game as a Patriots head coach after a 22-year dynasty which saw six Superbowl titles.
The Jets owner Woody Johnson has said on record he will stick to HC Robert Saleh and GM Joe Douglas.
