“Say it like you would say it to anybody else” Dan Campbell’s Bold Move Sparks Controversy on Detroit Radio, Criticized as ‘Lunatic Decision’

The Detroit Lions are first in the NFC North division and in the season, they have a score of 11-5. They were defeated by the Dallas Cowboys. The head coach, Dan Campbell, was pointed out for making a decision that was not considered sound by Jim Costa, Detroit’s 97.1 The Ticket host, during the game.

Costa had shared, “Even though it appears the Lions got screwed on successful 2 point conversion, I keep going back to Dan Campbell losing his cool. It was a lunatic decision to go for it 7 yards out and then 4 yards out.

There’s aggressive (The original call) and then there’s hurting your team”

Campbell joined the segment with Mike Stone and Jim Costa on Detroit’s 97.1 The Ticket morning show and the question was naturally put up about the contentious two-point conversion effort.

Specifically, Costa was curious regarding Campbell’s decision and his reasoning for a second two-point play as the previous effort was forfeited.

The Lions’ head coach, Campbell, shared that he was going for the win and was not looking for the result, which came back later. Nevertheless, Campbell insisted that hosts both Costa and Stone were being subdued in their remarks and he should tell him by expressing their true feelings.

As per Awful Announcing, Campbell said, “I told our offense we were going for the win. ‘We’re going to go down, we’re going to score and we’re going for two, and I wasn’t coming off of that.”

He then shared, “You know what, go ahead and say it. Both of you. Say what you want to say.”

To which Costa responded, “I think from the 7 it’s a low-percentage play. I think your chances of winning are lower than if you kick the extra point.”

However, Campbell was not satisfied with his answers and then said, “No, say it like you would say it to anybody else. I’m on the radio, say it like you want to say it.”

Then Costa said, “I thought it was a reckless decision.” To which the head coach replied, “Thank you”.

Costa also shared that after the conversation in a post that stated, “Respect to Dan Campbell for today. He wanted the criticism to his face and thanked me after. He’s real

I do think it was reckless and a lunatic decision to go for it from the 7. Stand by it

Appreciate a coach who wants candid conversation. Wouldn’t have it any other way.”

When Campbell was asked whether he regretted the decision or not, he replied with a “No”. The head coach has been transparent regarding why he took his decision and has also earned respect for being clear about it.
