Last year, Patriots quarterbacks Coach Jerod Mayo stopped scouting with other teams and re-signed with New England, a decision that made it look like he could replace Bill Belichick as head coach.
In the report, several people expressed doubts about Mayo"s readiness to take on the head coaching job, in part because
“he has upset some people in the house since his contract extension."
Mayo said that, in his opinion, talking bad to other people is not a bad form of leadership. But in the end, if we can"t inspire others, how can you expect us to be good? I would say whether it"s a change or something, if someone rubs you the wrong way, it hurts.

Mayo"s schedule for the next game may not be tied to New England"s, or the team could choose to cut Belichick"s way after Mayo said Tuesday that " tough years." Jerod Mayo appears to be the top choice to replace Bill Belichick as the Patriots" head coach.
“While almost everyone believes Mayo has what it takes to be a manager, I can"t find many who believe he"s ready for the role right now. I have no new information that leads me to believe that the Krafts have a low opinion of Mayo. Of course, it cannot be ruled out that some sources are packing their boats and may think that Mayo could be moving in a new direction."
However, Mayo may not be the head coach of the Patriots. As the 2023 season approaches, talk continues to swirl about who will be the Patriots" next coach, with Jerod Mayo likely to be Bill Belichick"s successor up front. However, according to Greg Bedard of The Boston Sports Journal,
“Mayo has had a few problems since re-signing [last season]."
He added that rumors that Mayo would be in charge were “unlikely".
"I always thought it was the players, then I realized that people always have a bigger purpose."
It"s a little embarrassing and strange to me that someone is thinking about this in depth. McCourty asked how Mayo could suddenly appear when his role as coach had not changed:
“It"s not like he"s an assistant head coach below Bill or whatever he"s doing,"
he explained.
"So, I think it"s a story and something else, like he rubs people the wrong way because I think that"s the way it is. Like him as a player, even after he returned home, nothing really changed. Mayo has expressed interest in becoming an NFL head coach and has interviewed with the Broncos, Raiders and Eagles in the past. Start with the thought process, ‘Come on, and let’s learn something new. Let"s look at one of the other crimes," to get a different perspective. "

“I think the hard thing is, I have to put myself in his shoes, if you get a head coaching job, especially as a black coach in the NFL, you can"t say no. Like we talk about it every year. Crazy amount of Black coaches and Black general managers, it"s rare and if you get an opportunity to be in the NFL, it"s hard to say no because you never know when the opportunity is going to come…but I think it would be very difficult if they offered him some kind of job. , whether as a coordinator or if he becomes a head coach in the future, the Boston Sports Journal reports that Mayo doesn"t want to give advice to certain people at home, so this could be a sign about his future in New England (3- 11)."
According to the Boston Sports Journal,
“Several teams have pointed out that Mayo has kept some guys in the wrong house since his senior year and may have received strong evidence that he is a replacement."
With New England in the midst of a terrible season, Mayo is rubbing people the wrong way, with owner Robert Kraft confirming he will be the next head coach or a strong candidate if Belichick leaves.
It won"t be confusing.
If these are the people leading the coaching search, if the Patriots move on from Belichick, it could be a major setback for Mayo"s chances for the next head coach.
