Gilbert Arenas thinks a package of Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle is not enough to get Jalen Green from Houston Rockets

The New York Knicks appear to have a new “Big Three" with Julius Randle, Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby being traded to Toronto.

Currently sitting in seventh place in the NBA"s Eastern Conference, the Knicks are hoping to make it out of the playoffs and have a personal best this season, which should be a good result.

One NBA champion thinks the Knicks are doing something wrong. Beyond the trio of Randle, Brunson and Anunoby, Gilbert Arenas believes the Knicks are better off building around a star rather than a stable group of players.

“(The Knicks) have a terrible scouting staff because they have to have stars,"

Arenas said on the Gill Arena Podcast. I want Jalen Green, [Anthony] Edwards, right?

Three-time All-Star Arenas thinks Jalen Green is better than him. After his second season with the Houston Rockets, he averaged 22.1 points per game and was considered the best in the league.

At this point in his career, Jalen Green has proven to be a successful rebounder who is important to the offense, but not someone you build your team with.

Now, in an uncertain world, the Knicks want to build an exciting trade package around Green, but the Knicks appear to have their current plan ready to take over the East.

The Houston Rockets have been dominant under head coach Ime Udoka and would be in the playoff qualifying round if the 2023-24 NBA season ended today.

Jalen Romande Green (born February 9, 2002) is an American professional basketball player who plays for the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He graduated from Prolific Prep High School in Napa, California, and chose to forgo college basketball during his first season to join the NBA G League Ignite.

Green was selected by the Houston Rockets with the second overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft.

Alperen Sengun has made strides this year and looks like a good option for an extension. The same goes for Jaylen Green, who has fewer goals this season but is playing more controlled.

Green in particular has some attractive possibilities, but fans raised eyebrows when Gilbert Arenas called Green a star on his personal Twitter account.

“We want a star. We want Jaylen Green…Edwards. We want a superstar name first, then we build a team,"

Arenas said.

Arenas talked about the New York Knicks and how they should look for new stars in Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle. The first player Arenas brings up is Green which felt strange given the star players that are currently rumoured to be on the move.

While Green’s got star potential, it’s hard to say he’s already one given that he’s yet to accomplish much in his career so far.
