The love/hate relationship between New York Yankees legends Alex Rodriguez and Derke Jeter is all love again, well almost.
The pair were teenage friends, and both went on to play for the most famous baseball team in the country, and any relationship toxic or otherwise would have been blown out of all proportion in the New York media.
The duo won two World Series together, but it was an up and down relationship.
This was renewed when the pair went head-to-head to buy the Markins franchise in 2017, with Jeter winning that round.
He took Rodriguez out for drink in South Florida in a peace gesture that was well received.
“In that 30-plus-year history, we’ve had some ups and we’ve had some downs,” he told Dan Le Batard on South Beach Sessions. “The media was obsessed with our relationship in New York. It was a very meaty story, and negativity sells, and big names sell.”
The real sauce in the feud was in April 2001, when Rodriguez said Jeter did not have to be a leader and was only surrounded by talented people.
“It was a mega media story,” Rodriguez said. “And he did a nice job of being super disciplined. I wasn’t as disciplined, and it created some noise. Through it all, what I remember is what a great player he was, good teammate. We won a championship together, and now we’re teammates at Fox doing the playoffs and World Series every year.”
