Mike Vrabel remains one of the best NFL quarterbacks on the market. That’s why a lot of people are wondering why the Tennessee Titans haven’t tried to trade him.
Shortly after the Titans announced Tuesday that they had fired Vrabel, Strunk appeared on 104.5 The Zone and discussed the decision.

He asked if he would consider trading with Vrabel. Strunk said
“the process took too long. So, we thought about that,”
Strunk also said.
“Honestly, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to go to the bottom of the line to get the right director and lose someone we really wanted.”

Vrabel may be in high demand. But Strunk is right that closing the deal may take longer. There’s a reason executive-related jobs are rare.
The Tennessee Titans fired Coach Mike Vrabel on Tuesday; a surprise moves to say the least. But the decision not to change him was a surprise.
Ultimately, Vrabel could get a draft pick from the Titans, possibly a first-round pick, depending on how big he is in the league. So why didn’t the Titans trade Vrabel like everyone expected?
The Titans believed trading Vrabel was too complicated and would take too long, per sources. They wanted to move on quickly. I was told Vrabel never asked ownership for a trade or asked out of Tennessee.

The problem with marketing is that it takes time. This puts the Titans at risk of losing several head coaching candidates this season.
“I spoke with Mike Vrabel this morning and told him that we have decided on a head coaching change,”
Titans’ owner Amy Adams Strunk said in a statement.
“As I told Coach Vrabel, this decision was as difficult as anything I’ve done as a head coach.”
“I appreciate Mike’s contributions to the Tennessee Titans on and off the field,”
Strunk said, expressing his desire for more integration with the General Director Ran.
“As the NFL continues to innovate and evolve, the teams most poised for continued success are those that embrace coordinated and collaborative teams in all aspects of football,”
said Carthon, who was hired by the team last year to replace Jon Robinson.
“We believe we will be a team that works,”
Strunk said.
“Last year we set out to change our approach to football leadership and change our personnel to move forward with that plan. While we continue to evaluate the state of our team, we came to the decision that the team would benefit from this. New approach and perspective from a new technical staff”.
While the Titans didn’t trade Mike Vrabel, his track record as a head coach makes Vrabel an attractive option for five other franchises with immediate openings.
In a video interview with the team’s internal media, Adams Strunk admitted that she considered trying to trade Vrabel to another team, but there were issues preventing him from pursuing a job.
“Ultimately, given league rules, it could be three weeks,”
Adams Strunk said.
Fans reacted as follows:
How could you look at the Titans and think Vrabel was the problem? https://t.co/kR9In6p1uA

Didn’t want to wait 3 weeks to get at the end of a line, then cast a wide net and take your time?
Sounds like a PR firm process— VOLtaire (@TheLonePhoenix) January 9, 2024
Amy needs to step down. She doesn’t know football from a hole in the ground. The Adams family needs to sell the team and get someone competent installed.

AAS understands that you have to be able to bring in proven quality coordinators. Vrabel didn't understand that. He fired OLine coach Keith Carter just to promote Houghtaling who is simply inexperienced & unqualified to be a NFL OLine coach. He got both Tannehill & Levis hurt.

Most important question for me is, Did Mike want to stay or go? If he truly wanted to stay, this is a horrible decision. Signed: PSL Founder & Inagural Season Ticket Member of the month. #HeartOfTheGame

Clearly, to me, Vrabel and Ran were not on the same page. Last year, Vrabel probably pushed hard to keep the core together, take another swing at the offensive line and add the missing piece, Hopkins and we can compete for the Division. So we did not trade core players.

Somebody should have ask her does she think that roster was good enough for any coach

She is thoroughly unimpressive, and the Mularkey press conference exposed the true edict of this organization. Mike Vrabel is a winner and at several points in his tenure, a miracle worker. He will go on to bigger and better, while this franchise extracts far more than it returns

From what I’m understanding from Amy, is that she feels we peaked in 2021 and it’s been downhill ever since.
I can respect that view, as from her vantage point there were no signs that it’s was only up from here. We were probably on a path to the number one pick in 2025.

The roster wasn’t competitive. You could go get any of the other coaches. Probably the same results. You’ve gotta a young QB. What if your hire isn’t a good fit for him. Then you fall further back as a team.
