In a recent TikTok post, Carly Teller, the wife of Cleveland Browns player Wyatt Teller, pulled back the curtain on the real-life experiences of being an NFL wife.
With a mix of humor and honesty, she tackled stereotypes head-on, starting with the notion of NFL wives being “gold diggers.”
She quipped, “I’m an NFL wife, of course, I’m a gold digger. Of course, all I do is run my errands and drink my coffee,” playfully poking fun at the misconception that her life revolves around luxury and leisure.
Carly then dived into the amusing challenges that come with being an NFL wife, particularly the constant requests for game tickets, along with the reminder that these tickets aren’t handed out for free.
With a touch of sarcasm, she remarked, “I’m an NFL wife, of course, I could get tickets for you and all of your cousins.”
Moving beyond ticket requests, Carly spoke about the unrealistic expectations placed on her regarding gifts.
She shared, “I’m an NFL wife, of course, you can have anything you want signed for you, anytime you want. I can just get the entire team to sign things for you.”
Next, Carly touched on the uncertainty that comes with her husband’s unstable NFL career, stating, “I’m an NFL wife, of course, my life is so easy, even though my husband can get cut any day of the year.”
Expressing genuine concern for Wyatt’s well-being on the field, Carly shared, “Of course, I’m never stressed, even though my husband doing his job can get hurt any Sunday.”
In the middle of these challenges, Carly hinted at the need for relaxation, injecting humor by saying, “I’m an NFL wife, of course, I’m prescribed Xanax.”
Here Carly hinted at the stress and pressure of being an NFL wife that can lead someone to seek medical help for relaxation.
Carly further touched upon the limitations on social time during the season in wake of the demanding NFL schedule, noting:
“I’m an NFL wife, of course my family can come to every event that you invite us to during football season.”
Lastly, Carly addressed presumptions about her family planning with a playful tone, stating, “I’m an NFL wife. Of course, I’m going to make D1 babies.”
Wyatt Teller and Carly got engaged in December 2020 after the Browns guard proposed his lady love on the field at FirstEnergy Stadium in 2020.
The pair tied the knot in April 2021.
Their family grew with the arrival of their son, Brooks, born on December 19, 2022, at 9:14 am.
Wyatt Teller began his NFL journey when the Buffalo Bills selected him in the fifth round (166th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. The Bills acquired the pick in a trade that sent Marcell Dareus to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Initially a backup guard in his rookie season, Teller was named the starting left guard in Week 10, starting the final seven games.
In a notable move, Teller, along with a 2021 seventh-round pick, was traded to the Cleveland Browns on August 29, 2019, in exchange for 2020 fifth- and sixth-round picks. After initially serving as a backup during the first half of his debut season with the Browns, Teller secured a spot in the starting lineup in Week 9, maintaining his position for the rest of the season. By week five of the 2020 NFL season, Teller gained recognition as a potential MVP candidate for his contributions to Cleveland’s running game.
During the 2020 season, Teller’s outstanding performance earned him a place on the reserve/COVID-19 list on December 8, 2020, and he was subsequently activated on December 13. Notably, Teller was honored by being named to the 2020 All-Pro Team.
On November 9, 2021, Teller signed a four-year, $56.8 million contract extension with Browns.
