As many fans are aware, Bill Belichick, who recently retired as the head coach of the New England Patriots, rocked the iconic style of cutoff sleeves in his long 24 remarkable seasons.
Mazzulla on Thursday paid tribute to the retiring legendary coach Belichick at his pregame press conference ahead of Thursday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks.
Coach Belichick who parted ways with the Patriots was a six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach, an historic 24 years as head coach.
On Thursday, Owner Robert Kraft and Belichick confirmed the news during a press conference. His departure came during their worst season, as the Pats rank last in the AFC East with a 4-13 record — marking New England"s worst finish since 1992.
In his pre-game press conference, Mazzulla talked about his friendship with Belichick and the connection between two of the region’s prominent coaches. The choice of Mazzulla seems to be honoring him on Thursday afternoon after hearing of the Patriot coach"s departure.
He told the media,
"I don"t have a reaction to that [Belichick and the New England Patriots mutually parting ways], I think I just have a reaction to Bill as a coach, as a friend, as one of the best coaches of all time. That"s just what he"s been able to do. [I"m] thankful for the relationship he and I have built."
The first encounter between Mazzulla and legendary coach Belichick was back in September 2022 in Foxboro, he was an assistant coach for the Celtics. Mazzulla would be named the interim head coach just days after meeting with the ex-Patriots head coach.
He has spent time the last two seasons with Belichick at the Patriots’ training camp, referencing the greatest coach of all time as a valuable resource to learn from.
