USA Today reporter Nightengale tweeted,
“Veteran free-agent first baseman Joey Votto, the beloved former Cincinnati Reds’ six-time All-Star and MVP, has three teams now expressing interest in him.”
This off season Votto will be in free agency, and as per the sources he will be playing his 18th MLB season with another team as the Cincinnati Reds plan to start the 2024 season without him.
After spending his entire 17-year MLB career with the Reds, his club option was declined in his contract for 2024, and publicly bid farewell to him in November.
As per the updates, The Reds declined Votto’s $20 million club option for 2024 and bought out the final year of his deal for $7 million in November.
In 17 years and 2,056 career regular-season games with the Reds, the first baseman has slashed a career .294/.409/.511, accruing a total of 2,135 hits, 1,144 RBI, and 356 homers.
According to Bleacher Report’s Mike Chiari,
“It is fair to wonder if the Toronto Blue Jays are one of the teams interested in Votto, as he was born in Toronto and wouldn’t have to be a key part of an already stacked lineup.”
According to the report, Votto would probably be utilized as a designated hitter, and best to put the lefty hitter.
Free-agent first baseman Votto is not expected to re-sign with the Reds and according to another source, the Boston Red Sox are another club eyeing for the veteran.
