Jared Goff won the battle of the quarterbacks as he led his Detroit team to a 24-23 win against his former team, the LA Rams.
He was up against Matthew Stafford and while both impressed it was Goff who carried the day.
This is the first time the Lions have won a playoff game in 30 years.
LA Rams coach Sean McVay was impressed by his former player and seemed genuinely happy that Goff performed to expectation.
“Jared was really efficient,” McVay said. “You can see the command he has. I think there’s a lot made of it, but I’m really happy for him. Obviously, we wanted to come away with the win, but he’s done a great job.
“I think the grit, the resilience, and the way he’s done his thing here over the last three years, I’m happy for Jared, and I certainly am appreciative of the four years we had together.”
Goff was accurate, throwing 22-26 for 277 yards and one touchdown whole Stafford 25-36 for 367 yards.
The Rams had more of the ball yet the Lions made the possession count.
The Rams won the key offensive battles but could not win the war, with impressive wide receiver Puka Nacua picking up none catches and 181 yards.
But when you add all the inches, and Eminem cheering from the stands, that is the difference between winning and losing.
McVay will not regret swapping Stafford for Goff, the Rams winning the Superbowl in his first season in LA.
