MLB Star Jose Bautista Takes Over Las Vegas Lights FC in Major Ownership Deal

In an exciting development, former Toronto Blue Jays star Jose Bautista has taken on full ownership of the United Soccer League’s Las Vegas Lights FC. The 43-year-old athlete will not only serve as the primary investor but will also step into the role of chairman and governor for the club.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the venture, Bautista, a passionate soccer fan, remarked, “As a soccer fan and former professional athlete, I am excited to be involved with the world’s game.” Following his retirement from professional baseball, Bautista has been closely observing the remarkable growth of soccer in the United States, particularly within the USL.

Bautista, who played an impressive 15 seasons in Major League Baseball, is best known for his remarkable tenure with the Toronto Blue Jays. Traded to the Blue Jays in 2008, he spent a decade with the team, leaving an indelible mark by hitting 288 home runs—second only to Carlos Delgado. Bautista holds the franchise record for single-season homers with an impressive 54.

His illustrious baseball career includes six consecutive All-Star game appearances from 2010 to 2015, along with three Silver Slugger awards. In recognition of his contributions, Bautista was inducted into the Blue Jays’ Level of Excellence in 2023.

Reflecting on his transition to soccer ownership, Bautista shared, “I look forward to sharing my love of sports with the Vegas soccer community. Vegas is the place to be and has emerged as a big professional sports town, and I will do everything I can to push this club forward.”

Beyond his role in sports, Bautista is committed to making a positive impact in the local community. Drawing from his playing career, he emphasized the importance of giving back in meaningful and intentional ways.
