Chet Holmgren’s high school uniform of the Oklahoma City Thunder was retired Friday night at Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis.
“I want my shirt to hang on the wall as an example of the standards that should be maintained for everyone who walks through the doors of this school. So, thank you for coming.”

Holmgren was selected with the second overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder, making him Gonzaga’s highest draft pick and Minnesota’s highest draft pick, aside from Kevin McHale in in 1980, it came in third.
In his Summer League debut, Holmgren scored 23 points, seven rebounds, four assists and six blocks in a 98-77 victory over the Utah Jazz. On July 5, 2022, Holmgren signed a multi-year contract with the Thunder.

On December 4, Holmgren was named the Conference Rookie of the Month for the October/November playoffs.
Josh Giddey and Chet Holmgren have been teammates for two years with the OKC Thunder. A day before that game, almost the entire OKC team went to Minnehaha Academy for Holmgren High School’s dress rehearsal.
In mid-November last year, allegations emerged on social media that Josh Giddey had an inappropriate relationship with a minor. A few days later, the NBA said it would investigate the claims.
OKC Thunder coach Mark Daigneault and Giddey declined to comment on the matter in general. Meanwhile, the 21-year-old Australian continued to play alongside Chet Holmgren, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the rest of his Thunder teammates.
Josh Giddey received boos, whistles and unflattering names whenever he did well for OKC on the road. Holmgren and “SGA” have said many times that Giddey weathered the storm with strength and poise.
When Chet Holmgren retired his high school uniform Friday night in Minnehaha, he may have chosen to lie down.

Josh Gidey is averaging 12.0 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.7 assists this season. He plays an important role in the Minnesota Timberwolves team.
Chet Holmgren may have the toughest job on defense Saturday against the Timberwolves. He has to protect big men Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert.
He will have an unenviable task against Minnesota’s athletic offense, led by Anthony Edwards.
Josh Gidey is not attending Minnehaha Academy, but will be a big presence at Target Center alongside Chet Holmgren.
The Thunder (28-13) host the Minnesota Timberwolves (30-11) on Saturday night at Target Center in a matchup between the top two teams in the Western Conference standings.
