“I don’t wanna be affiliated with this kind of nonsense” Controversy Erupts as Three MLB Stars Enter Hall of Fame, Critics Slam BBWAA’s Selection Process

It may be the offseason but MLB fans around the globe were keeping a close eye on the news cycle this week to see which players did, and which didn’t make the Baseball Hall of Fame. After the final results were tallied only three players from this year’s ballot were voted in.

Adrián Beltré (four-time All-Star), Todd Helton (five-time All-Star), and Joe Mauer (AL MVP, six-time All-Star) were all inducted into Cooperstown from the 2024 class.

Columnist and commentator Clinton Yates launched a scathing assessment on the BBWAA (Baseball Writers’ Association of America) and their latest handling of the Baseball Hall of Fame vote.

“I don’t wanna be affiliated with this kind of nonsense,” stated Yates.

Yates was speaking on a recent episode of Around the Horn on ESPN and called this “another failure” by the BBWAA.

The well-known baseball writer’s gripe surrounded the players who were not inducted from the ballot. Along with Yates, many baseball fans believe that there were a handful of worthy players who were overlooked. Pitcher Billy Wagner, outfielder Gary Sheffield, and Andruw Jones were some of the big names that missed out.

“Gary Sheffield is a player who hit 25 homers for 6 plus teams. You got Andruw Jones, who’s the best defensive centerfielder I’ve ever seen in my life,” added Yates

Clinton Yates did go on to state that he was very impressed with the three players that cut. He went on to provide some positive insights for each of the players that were inducted and called them “good stories.”
