Former NFL player and renowned media personality, Pat McAfee, recently staged another surprising return to the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) Royal Rumble as a guest commentator.

This marks another highlight in the event’s legacy of unexpected appearances and thrilling re-entries.

Pat McAfee, known to many for his popular show, “The Pat McAfee Show,” has successfully bridged the gap between his football days and the professional wrestling industry.

The year 2018 saw McAfee branching out from his NFL legacy. He signed a multiyear agreement with WWE which followed his various guest appearances on NXT shows.

This contract boosted his transition from a one-time guest to a regular contributor on WWE, keen on hosting watch-alongs and occasionally chipping in as a commentator.

McAfee’s tenure with the WWE took an exciting turn in 2020 when he kicked off a dispute with wrestler Adam Cole.

This disagreement led to McAfee setting foot in the ring for his paramount debut match.

In 2021, McAfee brought his vibrant and expressive commentating to WWE’s SmackDown show.

But the former NFL star wasn’t content just providing color commentary; he also got involved in the action.

Wrestling fans will particularly remember his WrestleMania 38 match against Vince McMahon.

Come 2022, after appending his signature to a WWE contract extension, McAfee divulged a brief break from SmackDown to concentrate on his new ESPN show.

Although the WWE hasn’t officially reinstated him as a full-time wrestler, McAfee has sporadically returned to the scene, including his surprise appearance at the Royal Rumble.

McAfee’s show has consistently afforded WWE a regular platform since shifting to ESPN last autumn.

This partnership has helped escalate the WWE’s popularity amongst various sports fans across the globe.
