Tom Brady is the GOAT of the NFL and his story to the upper echelons of success is stuff of Hollywood legend.
But maybe the superstar is starting to believe the hype is more than it really was. Few could question his story or status, but he recently said he was an undrafted rookie when actually he went 199th.
“I’ve been a part of a lot of Super Bowls, championship games, I’ve had some seasons that didn’t go the way we wanted, I’ve had some injuries, I was an undrafted rookie.”
The Patriots famously selected the QB in the 2000 draft.
The seven-time Superbowl champion appeared in a documentary about the career trajectory of the quarterbacks who were selected ahead of him.
He could recall all of their names, Chad Pennington, Giovanni Carmazzi, Chris Redman, Tee Martin, Marc Bulger and Spergon Wynn.
But on a recent episode of the Pat McAfee Show he seemed to forget he was drafted at all.
McAfee also brought up the topic of his new gig as the number 1 commentator at FOX and how he plans to replace the popular Greg Olsen.
I certainly have had a unique vision and perspective of the game,” Brady said after noting he’s a fan of Olsen. “I’ve been a part of a lot of Super Bowls and championship games. I’ve had some seasons that didn’t go the way we wanted. I’ve had some injuries. I was an undrafted rookie.”
Maybe he genuinely believes he went undrafted, as the story fits the perfect ending narrative cultivated by the media and league, but the fact is he was picked 199th by New England.
