We are still 10 days away from the 2024 Super Bowl but NFL teams are making early moves to ensure they are set up for a title challenge in 2025. After a flurry of activity in the coaching market, the Washington Commanders are the latest team to name a new head coach. Dan Quinn, the former defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys will be charged
Quinn, who is known as a defensive-minded coach, will be tasked with rebuilding a Commanders team that has struggled in the NFC over the last few decades. They have reached the playoffs just five times this century and last appeared in a Super Bowl back in 1991.

After a successful season where the Dallas Cowboys ranked in the top 10 in points allowed per game (18.5), speculation has been swirling about Quinn returning as a head coach. Unfortunately, not everyone is thrilled about the Commanders’ new leader.
Well-known television sports personality Stephen A. Smith is known for his candid and brutally honest takes and believes this is not a good fit.
“Am I excited about this hire for the nation’s capital, no,” said Smith.
Smith was speaking on ESPN when the news broke and stated that he was not impressed by the addition. He went on to criticize the veteran coach stating that he has fallen short in big moments. Smith also brought up Quinn’s most recent game where his defense gave up 48 points at home to the Green Bay Packers.
Dan Quinn was the head of the Atlanta Falcons team that reached the Super Bowl in 2017 eventually losing out to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. His team led 28-3 at one point during that game before conceding 31 straight points. It is considered the greatest Super Bowl collapse of all time.
After trading highly-touted defensive linemen Chase Young and Montez Sweat earlier this season, the Commanders will look to rebuild. The team has nine picks in the next draft and over $70 million in cap space to invest in the roster.
A new ownership group led by billionaire owner Josh Harris combined with a new head coach (and a new team name) will bring a much-needed fresh start in Washington D.C.
