Reporters and NFL analysts are wondering out loud of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid will retire after next week’s Superbowl title shot against the 49ers.
Some big hitting NFL voices such as Adam Schefter and ESPN’S Sean McDonough believe Reid could retire.
McDonough told The Greg Hill Show on 93.7 WEEI Boston that he believes Reid could make a decision soon.
McDonough was in Baltimore to watch the Chiefs down the Ravens in the AFC Championship.
The comments came after Schefter voiced his Reid retirement plan.
“There was some talk about (the rumors), not a lot,” McDonough said. “It certainly didn’t come across as imminent, but where there’s smoke, there’s fire, too. I trust Adam Schefter. It wouldn’t surprise me if Andy is considering it; I mean, he’s definitely toward the end of his career. I kinda believe in going out on top, so if he were to win and he was pondering it, I wonder if it might compel him to be more likely to retire and go out with a Super Bowl championship.
“Whether Bill winds up there or not, wow, that would be a lot. I would guess that would not happen, but Schefty’s plugged in, that’s for sure. So, who knows.”
Reid saw success first at the Eagles, taking Philadelphia to eight straight playoffs in his tenure which started in 1999 and finished 13 seasons later. He famously ked them to a Superbowl title.
At the Chiefs Reid will make his fourth Superbowl appearance.
They have two titles and fell just short to a Tom Brady inspired Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
